Species Information

Fried-egg jellyfish is a large species, with a bell up to 60 cm (2 ft) in diameter and sixteen clusters of tentacles (with up to a few dozen tentacles in each) that are up to 6 meters (20 ft) long. (Wikipedia 2009)

Biology


Diet:

Diet includes Smaller jellyfish and other gelatinous zooplankton (Strand & Hamner, 1988).

Reproduction:

This species alternates between a benthic stage that is attached to rocks and piers that reproduces asexually, and a planktonic stage. The planktonic stage reproduces sexually in the water column.

Habitat


Fried-egg jellyfish is a cool-water species.

Distribution


Global Range:

This is a widespread, global species.

Found throughout BC coastal waters.
